David Osbaldeston will be showing works in progress as part of the upcoming Spring Open Studios event at the British School at Rome on 4-5 March 2026. David is currently undertaking an Abbey Fellowship in Fine Art, Painting, where he has been active in researching dualities and the manifestation between new and established forms of power relationships.

As part of Flamm 2026 in Bodmin, Cornwall, Nicola Bealing's new commission 'The Hanging Baskets of Bodmin', colonised the platform of Bodmin General Station.

Throughout the whole year we will be hosting Annie Whiles’ Doorway Guardians. This project, in partnership with KARST, Plymouth, will see Whiles’ woodcarvings simultaneously occupy entrance spaces, one at a time, at each gallery space.

Jordan Baseman will create a new moving image work inspired by The Box’s South West Film and Television Archive.The project explores universal human emotions and their expression over time, reflecting on how feeling and experience are captured and interpreted through film, performance, and everyday life.

“Strange Evidence is about both Oberon – a figure who is simultaneously present and absent in the exhibition – and a broader Sri Lankan diasporic experience in the United Kingdom, one that may involve complex or contradictory forms of connection and dislocation from the Indian Ocean island.”

This is the iconic photo of Richard Wilson standing in 20:50, filled with used sump oil, at Matt’s Gallery, January 1987, prior to it entering the collection of Charles Saatchi the same year, and later acquired by MONA Tasmania in 2017. This photograph is taken by Edward Woodman.

In her upcoming new solo exhibition, Imogen Stidworthy presents a new body of work, including the installation STILL LIFE BABEL, bronze casts of reeds and digital photographs of straw, with the screen work Iris [A Fragment], (2018)’ shown in the Netherlands for the first time.

David Osbaldeston is currently in residence at Cove Park, enabled by the support of Creative Scotland, the Hope Scott Trust, and an artist award from the Pollock Krasner Foundation.

Annie Whiles' work, Donkey in the Distance (2011), will be featured in Donkey Work, opening 28 June at Grundy Art Gallery.

We are pleased to announce that David Osbaldeston has been awarded the Abbey Fellowship Award in Painting at the British School at Rome. The fellowship is scheduled for Spring 2026.

In this new solo exhibition, Mike Nelson uses Fruitmarket’s Warehouse as the machine room, or driving force, for a major new installation that extends across all three spaces of the gallery. Built around two sets of photographs taken in London and a city in Eastern Turkey between 2010 and 2014, the work captures cities in flux, guided by their politics and leaders of the time.

Katie Cuddon is featured in the group exhibition In The Wind’s Hands, opening Saturday 14 June at Bo Lee and Workman, Somerset. The show features two works - Close (2024) and No Dimensions (2022) - which were first exhibited at Matt’s Gallery during her solo show No Dimensions, January to March 2025.

The Edge of Forever is an exhibition of paintings by Alison Turnbull and drawings by Emma McNally. Alison Turnbull's expansive painting series eXtreme Deep Field derives from a composite astronomical image made using the Hubble Space Telescope, eXtreme Deep Field.

Hot Flash is a solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture, animation and drawing by Melanie Jackson, that brings together two bodies of recent work, Rouge Flambé and Spekyng Rybawdy, in a pair of installations across Exeter Phoenix’s two gallery spaces. Congratulations to Imogen Stidworthy who has been shortlisted for the eighth Freelands Award with Chapter gallery, Cardiff.

Hybrid Scripts is the first solo exhibition by Mike Nelson in the North East in nearly 30 years. The exhibition comprises two seminal early sculptural installations Taylor (1994) and Lionheart (1997) in direct dialogue for the first time. Both works reflect on Britain’s colonial past, migration, trade and travel. Lionheart was exhibited at Matt's Gallery as part of BACKSPACE in 1998.

Jordan Baseman’s new film ‘These Were Not Simple Deaths’ has been selected for The San Francisco Short Film Festival and The Oregon Independent Film Festival.

The Foundling Museum have acquired Joyful News by represented artist Nicola Bealing.

The 18th-century ballad 'Joyful News for Bachelors and Maids' poked fun at the Foundling Hospital, suggesting it would encourage promiscuity. Bealing took inspiration from this bawdy song for the painting, now on display at the museum.

Including works by Anne Bean, Lucy Gunning, Susan Hiller, Harminder Judge, Tina Keane, Lindsey Mendick, Tai Shani and Suzanne Treister among many others; The Horror Show! celebrates our greatest cultural provocateurs and visionaries, examining how ideas rooted in horror have informed the last 50 years of creative rebellion in Britain.

The Horror Show! is co-curated by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard and Claire Catterall, who also conceived the idea.

Alison Turnbull has recently completed a commission for Peterhouse Technology Park in Cambridge. Taking inspiration from the surrounding architecture, and the microchips being designed inside, Those tiny little sparks borrows its title from a song by Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp.

High on Hope, 23 July – 24 September 2022 at Cross Lanes Project, has been conceived as a memorial exhibition for the artist Gerard Hemsworth (1945-2021). It brings together a selection of Hemsworth’s canvases with that the work by eight other artists whom he taught, on the Master’s programme at Goldsmiths College, London, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Matt's Gallery congratulates writer and curator Gilane Tawadros on her appointment as Director of Whitechapel Gallery. Tawadros was a Matt's Gallery Trustee between 2014 and 2016. She will take up her post in October 2022.

Jarosław Kozłowski's Archive of Ideas is exhibiting Robin Klassnik work in the archival exhibition NEO-DADA. IRONIA. KONTESTACJA in Poznan, Poland. Klassnik's works in the exhibition are a collection of postcards and rubber stamps he sent to Kozlowski in 1975. Kozlowski's gallery Akumulatory 2 (1972-1990) was the inspiration for Klassnik's establishing of Matt's Gallery in 1979.

Jordan Baseman film A Different Kind of Different has won the People's Choice Award in the Animation category at Humboldt Int'l Film Festival.

Alison Turnbull is featured in Sorting Britain: The Power of Postcodes at The Postal Museum. This exhibition celebrates the story of a postal innovation that changed life in Britain. From the price of your house to range of health care you can access, postcodes impact people daily. They developed in the mid-20th century to help sort and process the post. Since then, they have become much more than that.

Alison Turnbull presents a new site-specific work, Rhododendron Jazz Band as part of Rhododendrons: Riddle, Obsession, Threat at Edinburgh's Inverleith House. Coinciding with the peak flowering period of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s rhododendrons, the exhibition reveals the organisations’ significant history of collecting, researching and cultivating this unique plant.

Block 336 is very pleased to be showing Spekyng Rybawdy, the latest and most ambitious incarnation of Melanie Jackson’s ongoing project exploring the transgressive narratives and explicit symbolism of Medieval pilgrim bawdy badges. Through a carnival of colourful, erotically charged characters, Spekyng Rybawdy encourages us to re-examine not only our ideas about who took part in the production and circulation of imagery in the medieval period – but also how this might enable us to reconsider the origins of dissenting representations, sexual politics and our attitudes and behaviours today.

Read Michael Curran in conversation with Chris Valentine. Curran explores the themes and dreams of Valentine Lyons. Trish Lyons is a long term collaborator of Curran's. The two performed Karaoke Macbeth at the Macbeth public house in Hoxton St in 1999. Lyons consequently appeared in both Love in A Cold Climate and most notably singing in Curran's Look What The Done To My Song at Matt's Gallery in 2007. Lyons also wrote the text St. Cecilia for the show's notes.
