Stanley Picker Archive Traineeship
Fixed-term (5 months, January – May 2027)
2 consecutive days per week, Monday-Wednesday
Bursary of £5,446.40 over 23 weeks (equivalent to London Living Wage)

The Stanley Picker Traineeship is a unique opportunity for a recent graduate or postgraduate to gain valuable professional development experience, working as part of our gallery’s team.
Matt’s Gallery recently began work on cataloguing part of its archive with support from an Archives Revealed Cataloguing Grant from The National Archives.
This has provided us with a unique opportunity to offer a Stanley Picker Traineeship working alongside our archivist on our visual materials collection.
This Traineeship will offer experience across the full range of gallery work, with a specialist focus on the archive. The trainee will support the archivist in day-to-day tasks, and contribute to the project of cataloguing the Matt’s Gallery visual material collection.
Applicants should have a BA or higher in a relevant subject, and be able to show enthusiasm for our work and an interest in working with artists and archives. They should have a strong desire to learn and develop within a professional gallery environment and will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the visual arts as well as strong administrative and communication skills.

‘I was trying to find out more info about an invitation made by the artist Joel Fisher for his exhibition at the gallery. At the time, Fisher was known for his gallery invitations which featured a pair of images of eyes. When it came time to make the invitation for Matt’s Gallery, (which was named after Robin’s dog, Matt E.Mulsion) a decision was made to feature the dog’s eye, rather than Robin’s. ’

Trustees
Matt’s Gallery is seeking new members for its Board of Trustees to support the continuation and development of its work in its new home in Nine Elms.
We are looking for proactive new members with an interest in contemporary art to join our board. We are especially interested in candidates based or active in the Wandsworth and Nine Elms areas, and particularly welcome applicants from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds who are currently underrepresented in our organisation.
We are currently looking for individuals with knowledge or professional expertise in the following areas:
- Accountancy and Finance
- Audience Development
- Environmental sustainability
- HR
Trustees bring their expertise and professional experience to support Matt’s Gallery in achieving its aims and objectives. They provide leadership, advice and guidance to the staff and organisation.
Trustees serve for a 3-year term and attend approximately 4 meetings throughout the year in addition to an Annual General Meeting. They sometimes participate in and contribute to small working groups and subcommittees.
Candidates should be able to commit their time and enthusiasm and be an ambassador for the gallery.
In accordance with charities law, this is an unpaid position.
