An edition enlarged from an original 35mm negative made by Matthew Tickle.

The cat is of the breed known as a Van Cat. These cats are notable for their white coats, blue or amber eyes and the frequent occurrence of heterochromia where an individual has one eye of each colour. If the image is viewed as a negative it becomes evident that the colour of one eye is the inverse of the other.

A recent work in book form by Matthew Tickle Oculus ~ Verso expands on the analogy between camera and eye, retina and film in an attempt to reach across the space between mechanism and mind.

The posters were first created for the exhibition 'Punctum and Nebula' which took place in November 2006 at Hull Art Lab. They were subsequently shown as part of a contribution to the group show 'Fall' at Beaconsfield Gallery in 2012.
