Vein, John Blake's new work at Matt's Gallery, is an installation work in which diverse materials - steel plates and pipes, sheets of copper and glass - are amalgamated with large format photographic images - in colour negative for positive - each one depicting a human, anatomical detail.

This work will be another step in one of Blake's open series of 'Anatomy Lessons'.

Like the circulatory system of veins and arteries to which this work specifically refers, here all elements and images, light and form, will be seen as if arrested in the process of their fusion, bonded by the gallery's own architectural frame. Pipes will penetrate the gallery walls, soft copper skins will lay over their rigid edges, reflected copper - coloured light will blend with the photograph's orange/blue colour reversals, image will melt into architecture and architecture into image.

It is proposed that in the Spring of 1990, the ffotogallery, Cardiff, in cooperation with Matt's Gallery, London, will produce a publication of the series, 'Anatomy Lessons'.
