“And I went on and on and then one day after I had written a thousand pages, this was in 1908 I just did not go on any more.” – Gertrude Stein, The Gradual Making Of The Making of Americans

On 23 August, Gertrude Stein’s nine hundred and twenty six page novel The Making of Americans will be read out loud in its entirety throughout Matt’s Gallery. Rather than a continuous reading, the text will be fragmented and multi-layered, creating a narrative soundscape that mimics the notoriously impenetrable nature of the book itself.

Launch of Operation Paperclip

The first in a series of free public events throughout the summer that will act as introductory trailers to the autumn exhibition at Matt’s Gallery, REVOLVER II.

Operation Paperclip is the debut graphic novel by artist Patrick Goddard. The 78 page, black and white self published work is a black comedy about identity politics, free will and anarcho-individualism. The publication will be launched on the 21st with a commissioned text by Naomi Pearce and a debut of a new performance work by Goddard.

X Marks the Bökship is partnering with Matt’s Gallery specially for REVOLVER II to open a small bookshop and project space in the gallery foyer, which will be open on the night.
