Nat Goodden

Passageway

20 – 28 March 1982

Martello Street

Passageway, an installation by Nat Goodden will be on view at Matt's Gallery for nine days between 20th and 28th March 1982, 2-8pm daily.

Much of Nat Goodden's work has been a carefully thought out attempt to provide situations in which we can focus on our perceptions of everyday spaces.

The installations appear spare, self-sufficient. But they are not self-contained; what is there creates a wider context, articulates things beyond itself.

Passageway builds upon a crucial part of the geography of Matt's Gallery. It is one of a series of works in which spaces and their television images are 'bugged' so as to provide a visual and aural articulation of things; that articulation is itself articulated by human presence in the space, so that different structurings and perceptions of a space are proposed.

It is an openly accessible work which can be responded to directly. But because it is partly defined by action and perception, it can engage more complex responses. There can be both clarity and indistinction about what is subjective and what objective, where you are within and where without, whether this sense or that takes priority.
